Our Goals:

Foster sustainable growth and entrepreneurial spirit in China’s developing regions.
Value:
A host company; supports this humanitarian effort; will raise minority awareness to business society, enhance public relation profile and gain access to capable and dedicated workers with promising futures in China (Many interns have prestige academic background with supreme future business connection).
Intern; Minority or American; will gain referable work experience, improve language skills, comprehend business culture and develop business networking.
Overview:
We recruit, assess, and allocate American interns and Jishou (Hunan) minority interns to a committed open-end short term assignment to suitable host companies in China (primarily Shanghai). Strict intern selection process will be followed to meet program criteria. Host companies have specific minimum charity resource commitment for each intern but not obligated for long term employment. Minimum charity resources are listed below for each intern. We encourages additional charity contribution to support other EAFI branch programs. Our program adviser will handle intern compensation during the internship in a uniform way for all interns.
The current program resource will facilitate one American intern with 3~4 minority interns. Any company hosts four or more interns will likely have a full time American intern. Internship starts with 3 months commitment and can be extended additional 3 months periods thru our program. At end of the first or second 3-month period and at host company sole discretion the decision of permanent employment or program completion needs to be communicated with our adviser for further action.
Minimum Charity Resource Commitments:
For each intern hose company will commit to provide following:
Company overview and job description for needed interns. Timing: immediately or two to three months in advance before interns starting date.
Direct supervisor phone interview with minimum 3 filtered potential interns for one intern position. Timing: immediately or two weeks before interns starting date.
Besides direct supervisor (skill trainer) task guidance, provide one hour a week/intern interface (one on one) by a second tier management supervisor (mentor). Discussion in this one on one prefers to be inspirational - can be work, task, process, management, organization, culture, life, spiritual, philosophy, political, etc. Timing: during the internship working weeks.
Run trip travel and 3 months living expense. The travel for American and Jishou intern may be different. We will provide this figure. Timing: immediately or two months before interns starting date.
3 month salary. Currently it is $1,500 Yuan per month. First three months need to be donated to activate the program. Timing: immediately or two months before interns starting date. Dated check is okay; we will hold and deposit the check at interns starting date if necessary.
Our program will have after-work culture, language, charity, coaching, seminar and presentation activities for interns to actively participate. They need to be free to attend those after-work activities. Timing: during the internship working weeks.
Program adviser and process fees –waived for 2005
As an option our program can facilitate travel, living arrangements, and other logistics for interns to simplify host company obligation down to just overall funding support.
Intern selection process:
Intern Selection will follow abbreviated job hiring process. All interns will complete a comprehensive application (including qualifications, experience, and field of specialization). Our advisers will filter interns based on intern’s qualification, host companies job description and overview of hose company business background. Upon completion, interns will be paired with the most suitable companies and hiring manager will be given the opportunity to review qualifications and select 3~4 intern candidates for each position. Based on final phone interview, host company can select their preferred candidate to start the internship right away.
Program Status:
This program is completely non-profit. As such, all payments, stipends, and housing costs paid by interns or paid to interns by host companies are tax deductible. This allows for lower costs for both and host companies and interns.
This program aims at government endorsement by both American and Chinese government agencies. This provides credibility and allows for numerous external fund raising options, again reducing costs for both host companies and interns.
