West Hunan Program
Recruiting
Many of the foreign teachers have come from similar recruiting sources -Idealist.com and the Peace Corps newsletter "Hotline" are two. This means that the foreign teacher group (including those at the Middle School and the program in Baojing) have similar philosophies. This has made for congenial and collegial groups. It would seem that most who come through Professor Zhou are not in China to get rich but rather to experience another culture, offer skills that are needed in an emerging world presence, and be in a jumping off place for additional travel. If you want go to get involved, you can go to teach in West Hunan for short terms or long term teaching or community service. With the openning of the Rural Minority Women's Training Center in 2005, we encourage people with businesses and trade backgrounds to go to help out.
Alumni (by intake year)
** No. 1 Middle School
Other teaching sites - Baojing - No. 1 Middle School - Changde
EAFI recruits teachers for a variety of places in southwestern China .
Closest to Jishou are those at the No. 1 Middle School in Jishou as well as the primary and middle (secondary) schools in Baojing. There is interaction between these groups on an informal and often social level. However there is also sharing of experiences and ideas for teaching that make these collaborative as well as just-for-fun friendships.
