Jishou No1 Middle School

known for producing Chinese leaders, including Mao Zedong, the founder of the People's Republic of China, Liu Shaoqi, its former President, and Peng Dehuai, its former defense minister.

Jishou city is the capital of the Tu and Miao Minorities Autonomous Region, which has an annual per capita income of $300 (US). Since most of our students will come from this poor region, the school will provide exceptional opportunities to deserving students, especially women and minority students, from poor backgrounds.

The school is a coeducational institution with 3600 students. Through course work and superior educational instruction, students, grades 7-12, will achieve outstanding intellectual, moral, and physical development in preparation for college and vocational careers, possibilities hitherto beyond the reach of students with such backgrounds. Students will be prepared to attain high international standards of academic achievement, intellectual growth, ethical awareness and behavior, cultural tolerance, and service to others.

The school takes leadership seriously and stresses moral character for all of our students.Four students from the school came to Punahou school for short term studies and one teacher came to the East West Center for training.

Jisou Teacher's College

Jishou Teachers' College is the most important education institute to train village teachers in West Hunan. EAFI has established close ties with the college and sent more than 20 teachers there to teach. Princeton-in-Asia joined the partnership in 2003 and sends two people for one year and two undergraduates to Jishou Teachers' College to help with the leadership program every summer.
