Students and young professionals from China who are participating in the 2005 Civic Week Winter Camp visited Governor Lingle at the Capitol.
Chinese students from rural areas of Hunan , Hubei and Beijing met with Governor Lingle at the Capitol this week and discussed their campaign to ban smoking at high schools. Coordinating the visit was Professor Kate Zhou (second from left), director of the Education Advancement Fund International, in conjunction with University of Hawai`i and the East-West Center . The Governor praised the students for their efforts, noting that she is a board member of the American Legacy Foundation, a national organization dedicated to educating young people to reject tobacco.
The visitors were in Hawai`i to participate in the 2005 Civic Week Winter Camp, a two-week program for Chinese students and young professionals interested in American society and culture.
