Schools
EAFI has set up English training programs in Benxi, Liaoning provice and in selected poor rural minority regions. These include Jishou and Baojing, both in the province of Hunan China and some schools in Yunnan. On January 18, 2001 China's Ministry of Education announced that by fall, 2001, all elementary schools in cities and provincial towns will require English language education beginning in grade three (3).The English training programs will provide assistance that is necessary to help rural schools keep up with English education quality in the cities.
The cooperation with Jishou Minority Teachers' College, Jishou No. 1 Middle School and Baojing Minoirty School goes beyond training local English teachers and giving lectures to the students, it also includes scholarships, a free lunch program, an eye care program, and winter programs that help to develop better communication and understanding of American culture.
EAFI is seeking to cooperate with more schools in a much wider area and set up an indepandant English training school in the future. In summer 2005, EAFI will set up the first non profit school for minority rural women in China, Xiang Xi Rural Women Training School.
