EAFI Yunnan Summer Program The EAFI Yunnan summer Program is from July10 to August 9th, 2004. The approximate length of the trip is 30 days with a planned arrival on July 10th, 2004 in Beijing, China and departure from Shanghai on August 9th, 2004. Goal The goal of the trip is to understand Chinese language, Chinese art, the Chinese minorities, and Chinese social and economic development while also teaching English courses to help local teachers to improve their understanding of world history, English literature, and American society. Chinese Language and Art EAFI will provide Chinese language teachers to improve participants' Chinese speech, reading and writing. Every day, two hours are devoted to reading Chinese and Chinese conversation. There will be opportunities for students to practice their Chinese everyday. There will be three levels for foreign students: entry level, middle level and advanced level. This one month study tour will become a three credit language class. For students who do not want to participate in the language program, the time is for free time to explore China. Beijing visit (13 days) Take Chinese classes and do sightseeing in Beijing; Some high lights of the visit: the Great Wall, Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, Beijing University, and other great sights; Meet local entrepreneurs. Yunan (12 days) International students will have opportunities to visit different minority villages to experience traditional minority cultures bordering on Viet Nam, Laos, Myanmar and Tibet as they develop an understanding of China's ethnic and cultural diversity. All participates will teach English to local minority students while learning culture and languages. Shanghai (2 days) Visit rapid development in Shanghai and look for internship opportunities in American firms in Shanghai; Visit a Chinese family in Shanghai; experience with nonprofit organization in China:Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation; Chinese/English tour in Shanghai and Shopping in Shanghai. Two students from Shanghai will help participants practice Chinese while shopping, while the Chinese students practice their English. Program Highlights
Cost: Round-trip International Airfare: $800-$1000; Domestic transportation: $200 Application fee: $25 Tour Site Entrance Fees: $100 (pay upon arrival in Beijing) Individualized Chinese class: $200 (for those students who want to study Chinese) Requirements: All participants must take Hepatitis A and B immunization shots. The health insurance for the participants must be valid for overseas' hospitalizations and physician care. All participants must sign an EAFI release form. Goal The goal of the trip is to understand Chinese language, Chinese art, the Chinese minorities, and Chinese social and economic development while also teaching courses to help local teachers to improve their understanding of world history, English literature, and American history. Chinese Language and Art Jishou Teachers will provide Chinese language professors to improve participants' Chinese speech, reading and writing. Every day, one hour is devoted to reading Chinese; one hour for Chinese conversation, while one hour is on Chinese art and society. There will be three levels for foreign students: entry level, middle level and advanced level. These two months' stay will become a five credit language class. Beijing visit (3 days) do sightseeing in Beijing Some high lights of the visit: the Great Wall, Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, Beijing University, and other great sights; take the train to Jishou; Jishou (52 days) International students will have opportunities to visit Miao and Tu Jia minority villages to experience traditional Miao and Tu Jia cultures as they develop an understanding of China's ethnic and cultural diversity.
